[Remote] Data Enterprise Reporter

They are seeking a detail-oriented Data Enterprise Reporter responsible for acquiring, analyzing, and making public government data, while also collaborating with local newsrooms to interpret financial information and identify unique stories.
Responsibilities
- Retrieve and analyze large datasets to identify trends, patterns, and insights
- Create visualizations and interactive graphics to accompany databases
- Verify the accuracy and integrity of data used in reporting
- Stay up to date with the latest data analysis tools and techniques. Use AI tools and techniques to enhance data analysis and visualization
- Present data, conclusions, and written stories in a clear and compelling manner
- Contribute to the community’s greater good through impactful journalism
Skills
- Bachelor's or master's degree in journalism, data science or statistics or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- At least three years of newsroom experience
- Proficiency in data analysis tools such as Excel, SQL, Python or R
- Expertise with AI tools and proven scrapping experience and results
- Strong understanding of data visualization techniques
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
- Strong reporting skills, with the ability to gather information from people and public records
- Strong writing skills, along with a demonstrated ability to distill complex matters
- Able to work cooperatively, meet deadlines and shift gears for multiple tasks
- Energetic, curious, focused, and can spot the stories that matter
- This role requires a valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and the minimum liability insurance required by state law
